Twist Heavy Lies Between Us Picked Up By Mogul Productions

On track for a late 2024/early 2025 release, Lies Between Us is Mogul Productions’ newest project in partnership with Charach Productions that will demonstrate not everything (or everyone) is as they seem.

Centered around psychiatrist, Jen Palatino (Jayme Vanegas), Lies Between Us offers audiences an intimate and suspenseful story that starts innocently enough with a date, but quickly escalates after one of Jen’s patients crashes it.

Vanegas stars alongside Robert Ri’chard, who plays Jen’s love interest, Charlie, a charmer, who finds himself in a situation that gets completely out of hand. Palatino is forced to lean on her sister, a successful lawyer, to try and minimize the fallout from the actions of her patient, Liam (Jack Esformes).

With a supporting cast featuring Eric Roberts, Michael Paré, and executive producer, Randy Charach, Lies Between Us does a lot with a little, whether that’s the size of the cast or the cramped and claustrophobic setting. This is by design, forcing the suspense and interactions between characters to be front and center.

There’s no filler or fluff when it comes to the Lies Between Us, but there are plenty of surprises for the characters and the audience. With filming wrapped and post production underway, it won’t be long before audiences will be able to have their expectations flipped on their head.

Make sure to join the Mogul Telegram channel or to follow along on Twitter/X to avoid missing out on your chance to make your mark in Film3.

Randy Charach, Mogul Head of Film Development Q&A

Please introduce yourself, your role with Mogul, and some of the things you’re most proud of as it relates to your career.

Randy: I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada and currently spend most of my time between Vancouver and Los Angeles. My background is in business and entertainment. I’ve been in show business my entire working life. I’m really excited about my new role as Head of Film Development at Mogul Productions.

This is an amazing opportunity for me to share my knowledge and experience in film making while increasing my knowledge and experience in the crypto, blockchain, crowdfunding, and NFT space. I also have a great amount of experience in marketing. Being able to work with Mogul in all these areas of interest is really exciting.

I’m blushing while admitting there are several things I’m proud of in my career. As a live comedy magical entertainer, I’ve performed for over 5000 audiences all over the world. I’ve authored dozens of audio programs, books, and courses on self-help topics and online marketing. I’ve also produced over 50 feature films and have worked as an actor alongside many movie stars including several Academy award nominated actors. In addition to this, I have created, built and exited several multi-million dollar businesses.

Can you tell us about your early days in the entertainment industry? What inspired you to pursue a career in acting?

Randy: I wanted to be an actor ever since I was a young boy. Watching movies and television shows was something I did a lot of, and still do. I pictured myself in various roles and thought it would be fun to be a character actor. I hardly pursued it though, as I started performing magic shows as a business at the age of 12.

For the next several decades I was in high demand as a magician, mentalist, and stage hypnotist. Additionally, I started, operated, and eventually sold several businesses. These businesses ranged from an entertainment booking agency to a specialty toy company. I just didn’t have time to audition for roles as an actor.

However, for six years I did act as Ronald McDonald the clown in Canada. I was hired through the advertising agency that handled the McDonald’s account and performed shows and made public appearances.

You started out performing as a magician, eventually playing one on the original MacGyver TV series. Could you explain how you got into performing magic and what ways that helped you transition into acting?

Randy: I started performing magic at the age of five. My Uncle was a Las Vegas magician who taught me my first few magic tricks. In addition to performing, I consulted for TV and Film productions shooting in Vancouver. MacGyver was one of the first series to come to Vancouver, in the late 80’s. Paramount Studios hired me as the magic consultant for several of the episodes. I also appeared as an actor/magician on the show.

I’ve consulted for many TV shows when they had magic involved in the story. I found opportunities to work as an actor and become an executive producer as a result of my exposure to the industry. One contact led to another as I networked my way through the Vancouver and Hollywood film communities.

I attended full-time acting school for a year, around 25 years ago. It’s been a slow and gradual transition from magician to actor. One which has spanned decades and has only come to full fruition around seven years ago. This is when I decided to pursue the childhood dream of acting and put live performing aside. I auditioned for a rather large role in the film Zombie Tidal Wave and eventually won the role. We shot in Thailand and the producers were great to work with and offered me opportunities to produce. From there I started acting and producing full-speed ahead.

As for Mogul, what attracted you to the Head of Film Development role and what are the aspects of the position that you’re most excited about?

Randy: I love how Mogul is a crypto based crowdfunding platform for film; among other things. It combines elements of show and business that greatly appeal to me. I was mining bitcoin back when it was at $300. So, I’m not brand new to that space, but I’ve just been HODL’ing for several years (and will continue), and I’m excited to learn more.

The success of Mogul also relies on marketing and that’s another passion of mine. Now, my main passion and focus is on film production and as I’ve mentioned, it’s been this way for a few years now.

I’m most excited about bringing films to our Mogul community that will entertain people and see commercial success. My role is to bring new projects to Mogul and screen submitted projects and shortlist viable candidates for the platform. I’ll then consult with our team to determine which projects to develop programs for and offer participation to $MOGUL token holders.

What are some Mogul projects you’re looking forward to seeing on the screen?

Randy: I just wrapped my third feature film this year and have two more in pre-production right now. To kick things off, we’ll be bringing these five films onto the platform and creating incentives and perks around them.

Two of the films already shot are urban thrillers. They are titled “Homicide Suicide” and “Lies Between Us”. We just wrapped on an action film called “Clutch”. And, next to go to camera are two horror films called “Texas Nightmare” and “Harvester of Eyes”. These, and other films will kick things off at Mogul and are just the beginning.

Are there any types of projects in particular that you hope to see Mogul help develop?

Randy: I’m really excited to see what people submit to us. In addition to films, we are open to documentaries, series, and even short films. While I will have no shortage of projects I personally bring to the table, it’s what the community pitches to us at Mogul I’m most excited to help develop and promote.

In 5 years, where do you envision yourself and Mogul Productions? What would you like to see happen in that time?

Randy: I would like to see dozens of successful projects come to fruition through the Mogul platform. In five years, with the anticipated growth of our platform, token, and company, I imagine there will be many more film experts working with the current team on the film side of the company.

If there’s anything I missed or anything you’d like to add, do so here:

Randy: I encourage people to submit their projects through our website. Before doing so, please know that in most cases in addition to a solid script and a realistic budget, there should be some valuable attachment(s) to the project. Having star actors and/or a director and some equity attached to your project will help you stand out and get noticed.

We’re looking for viable projects and not just “naked” scripts. We’re here to help filmmakers who have already put in some work and have something to show for it.

TITI Looks to Remind Audiences Revenge is a Dish Best Left Unserved

Inspired by the Shakespeare play, Titus Andronicus, “TITI”, a film from Richard Short starring Lyriq Bent as Titi Androniki, looks to modernize one of Shakespeare’s more controversial works.

Perhaps Shakespeare’s most deranged play, Titus Andronicus weaved together his usual themes of power, family, and of course, revenge and madness, but in a way that adequately freaked out audiences long after he died.

Given the madness of our current times, Short (“Vinyl” and “The Tragedy of Macbeth”) and Bent (“Four Brothers” and “SAW IV”) have found an opportune time to revitalize the story for modern audiences.

Bent plays Titi Androniki, who is a former general turned African rap superstar, forced to return to his home country of Gaboria after political disputes and the murder of his son leave him with no other choice. Despite his fame, Titi’s circumstances demonstrate that no one is immune to social and political unrest, setting Titi on a path of retribution towards those who have taken his son and threaten his homeland.

But as Titi will learn, the cycle of revenge and retribution is one that only spins faster once it starts, grinding down everyone who get caught up in it.

Richard Short, Producer and Writer of “TITI”, explained that while the film will certainly match Shakespeare’s energy relative to Titus Andronicus, he plans to imprint a slightly tweaked perspective on the story.

“Titus Andronicus, as originally written, is perhaps known as a villainous man. He carries out some of the most heinous actions in all of Shakespeare,” Short said. “But what if he was right? Or at least, what if YOU empathized with his choices?”

Adding to that, Short acknowledges that “TITI” also provides an opportunity to update the story in a way that reflects modern sensibilities rather than some of the antiquated cultural norms Shakespeare leveraged to depict certain characters in certain ways.

“The most exciting thing about ‘TITI’ is the chance to right an historic wrong,” Short said. “William Shakespeare is the greatest writer in history but he undoubtedly wrote a despicable character (Aaron the Moor) and chose to make him dark-skinned in order to highlight his ‘untrustworthiness’. Because of this, an audience of the time would’ve thought the character ‘evil’ on sight. Obviously, a modern audience would find that unacceptable. We aim to finally provide some balance.”

Short added, “While the actions of most aren’t racially motivated, the actions of one most certainly are.”

Short, Bent, and Mogul Productions are eager to help bring “TITI” to theaters sometime in 2025.

All You Need to Know About the Migration to $MOGUL

The migration from $STARS to $MOGUL will be taking place on June 18th, an important next phase for Mogul Productions and Film3 generally.

Two weeks from today a new era in film and entertainment begins when $STARS holders will be able to swap their tokens for $MOGUL via a portal on the Mogul Productions website.

The migration period will last for a month, with only 100 million out of the total 1 billion supply being unlocked for migration at a 3:1 conversion rate. Additional tokens will be sent to early contributors to the new Mogul token, launchpads, and exchanges, with vesting period that occurs over 24 month timeline.

This strategy will ensure maximum stability for the initial unlocked supply of $MOGUL, in addition to growing the Mogul network and user base while giving token holders more utility and options in the crypto landscape.

Those who participate in the migration will also have an opportunity to earn more $MOGUL by choosing to stake their tokens for predetermined periods of time. The more holders who choose to stake, the less unlocked supply of tokens will be available publicly, which is why we decided to give better staking bonuses based on time staked.

Breakdown on the staking windows and reward percentages, beginning after the month-long migration window closes, are as follows:

30 days earns 5% $MOGUL Bonus

60 days – 11% Bonus

90 days – 20% Bonus

180 days – 50% Bonus

While only 10% of the total supply will be available publicly during the initial migration period, 8.6% more of the 1 billion $MOGUL supply will be unlocked after the first month post migration, with 6.9% of that going to exchanges.

With the focus on a measured and steady release of the overall token supply, around a third of the overall supply will be unlocked during the first three month period after the migration period closes.

All of these steps, including the conversion ratio and the rewards for loyal holders, are being implemented to provide stability and allow for maximizing value over time for $MOGUL holders.

Setting up $MOGUL for long term success is a vital step to developing the overall Mogul ecosystem, which will allow our community to make their mark on the film and entertainment industry. Integrating blockchain technology into the film industry will prove to be an innovative union at a time when both are at a unique and challenging turning point.

But to become a Mogul, you have to be willing to cut your own path and embrace challenges head on. We look forward to using collaboration with our community and partners to bring substantive and beneficial change to all things entertainment.

The Transcendence of Mogul

Dear Mogul Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that I will be stepping down as the President of Mogul Productions, but I am incredibly excited for the future prospects of the company and what my resignation means in terms of bringing Mogul to the next level.

Since Mogul’s inception in 2018 I have had the pleasure of founding, launching, and growing the product and business. The accomplishments in the last five years include:

  • First ever DeFiFi project
  • Building best in class product
  • Assembling the best team
  • One of first-ever NFT projects
  • Multiple firsts in NFT movie launches
  • Partnerships with world-class businesses and individuals

The most pride comes with the product that we have built to bridge Web3 and filmmaking. The Mogul product has a true product-market-fit with filmmakers around the world who want to monetize their NFT rights on their film to get their stories told. Over the course of the last 5 years we have heard over and over again from Hollywood that the most difficult part of making a movie is the financing and community building; and that is exactly what Mogul helps filmmakers do.

As I wrote in my 2022 Year in Review, Mogul’s next step is to become ingrained into the Hollywood fabric as a mainstream tool for filmmakers to use when taking their projects from ideation to distribution, where STARS, NFTs, and Mogul Metaverse products are used for film financing, fan engagement, and distribution.

To become a multi-billion dollar company Mogul needs to transcend from a niche Web3 community to a world-wide film community using our Web3 products. Mogul needs to grow mainstream users who are using our film Web3 products every day for the betterment of making their movies.

Over the last 9 months I have been working with the Web3 Venture Studio, Aventus Ventures, to make a strategic investment in Mogul and place the proper C-Suite level team members within leadership positions in Mogul to take it to the next level. Early on in our discussions, it was clear that we would need a seasoned Hollywood team that has access to a large catalog of movies and talent. This is something that, to date, we have not done well with Mogul. We have excelled at Web3 development, business relationships, and community building, but have lacked mainstream adoption.

Aventus Ventures has created a Joint Venture partnership between Mogul Productions and Electric Panda Entertainment, whereby Electric Panda’s esteemed team will take over C-Level management of Mogul Productions to operate the film side of the business and Aventus Ventures’ internal team of Web3 professionals will oversee Web3 strategy and development.

With the addition of Matt Gigault as CEO I’m confident under his leadership he will take Mogul to new heights

Electric Panda’s accolades and team members include:

EP’s on the film that took Best Director Award at Sundance – Kindergarten Teacher in 2018.  KT also played in Berlin and Tribeca and Hampton’s.

Gabriel Napora and Yas Taalat have been EP’s on some of the most critically acclaimed films of the last 5 years Including:

The Kindergarten Teacher

  • Skin
  • Driveways
  • A Mouthful of Air
  • The Informer
  • Ms Purple
  • And many others.

I have the utmost faith and have done incredible due diligence on this deal to ensure that Mogul is in the right hands to bring the business to the next level. I will remain on the Advisory Board for Mogul and do not see this as a good-bye forever, but rather a transition to put the business into the hands of the right people who have the capability to bring Mogul the notoriety and recognition in Web3 and Hollywood that it deserves

You will hear from the new Leadership next.

Mogul 2022 Year in Review & 2023 Outlook

It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone! As a team, we have been ideating and building Mogul since 2016 and have seen many different market cycles and narratives. As we look back on 2022, there were certainly plenty of ups and downs to learn from and share our insights with the community. Our efforts in 2022 have been to support the following goals:

  • Reward our NFT holders with in-real-life (IRL) events close to Hollywood
  • Scale the Mogul platform to launch more movies and thus pass on more rewards and benefits to our NFT holders and STARS holders
  • Make STARS more accessible globally and give more use cases within the Mogul platform
  • Advertise Mogul across the world in a cost-effective manner to grow in users and the size of our community
  • Improve the Mogul platform to increase revenue for the Mogul ecosystem to pass on these rewards to our community

What’s in store for 2023?

Mogul’s mission is to reimagine film production, distribution and fan participation using the power of the crowd through blockchain technology. The benefits of using blockchain include transparency, tracking, security, and stakeholder ownership.

Our vision is to be the future of film through the power of the crowd.

The core Mogul platform has been over-developed in 2022 in a great way – we now have the tools to accomplish these goals in a more efficient manner and the dashboard experience to support a growing user base. We expect, with the exception of Mogieland, that development time on the core Mogul platform will be significantly reduced and more time can be spent improving the product.

The Mogul product has made major strides in this mission, launching a film financing portal where filmmakers can raise funds and exploit NFT rights on their film through NFTs, creating partnerships with networks of over 6 Metaverses with film studios for films launching on Mogul to stream and premiere their films in Metaverse locations to engage their NFT holders, and re-engineering the Mogul quadratic voting portal, where fans can vote on key aspects of the production process.

Our goals are in scaling and becoming the premiere place where Film3 lives and projects come to to leverage NFT technology to exploit movie rights and engage fanbases. In addition, a big focus will be in the creation of protocol revenue for the community. When we analyze successful products and tokens in tangential niches to movies (music, sports, etc.) they are all excellent at creating protocol revenue and passing those rewards on to their supporters to continue growing.

We want to be introspective while listening to the community, partners, and industry titans in entertainment in how they can best leverage Mogul. This will help us to grow, scale, and align with top partners.

From Mogul, expect:

  • More movie launches
  • Progress on the Mogieland launch
  • Progress on the Mogies animated series
  • Metaverse collaborations
  • STARS accessibility partnerships & integrations
  • More IRL utility for Mogies & Access Passes
  • More multi-language communities being grown and built
  • Bear market marketing strategies to grow the community
  • Premiere partnerships

In regards to Mogieland, which many of our community members are very excited about, Mogul President Lisa Sun posted an introspective explanation of Mogul’s thought process and timelines that you can read here

In summary, Mogul’s thesis has never been more true. Studios are learning and becoming more inclined to use NFTs for their movies. With the Metaverse, the short-term hype has died down since the rebranding of Facebook and the subsequent run-up, but fans and moviegoers are still showing that they want a way to deeply connect globally to their favourite films. Mogul is not simply launching Mogieland to increase hype, but to build a connected ecosystem of content consumers and content creators. Right now, metaverses across the industry are lacking users, posing barriers to meaningful partnerships to be made with top studios. We are continuing to build and strategize a proper rollout for Mogieland so that the launch meets expectations across the industry.

The lack of consumer interest in metaverses throughout the back half of 2022 is illustrated by the Google Trends analysis, showing the search volume from consumers for the word “Metaverse” across the last 5 years.

Where are we looking to improve?

We want more movies to launch on Mogul now that we have the best platform in the world to support FIlm3.

Other goals to improve on are:

  • Launching more voting opportunities for our community to vote on aspects of movie production in partnership with the films launching on Mogul; whereby giving more use cases for STARS on the Mogul platform and including our community more in the script-to-screen process
  • Qualify, close, and launch more mainstream movies to launch on Mogul that have global appeal
  • Streamline our business development process to decrease the time to market for films
  • Decentralize and involve the community of token holders more in the decision-making processes through voting
  • Growing our leadership team to bring in esteemed professionals in entertainment to help bring Mogul to the next level
  • Partnering with public film investment vehicles to bring more capital to the Mogul platform

To accomplish these goals we have revamped our business development process and coupled it with our technology to operate at a better scale.

We have improved our movie vetting process, have decreased our time-to-market for NFT campaigns by months, and have adjusted our onboarding documentation for filmmakers to make it clear on how they can succeed using Mogul.

We will be putting these to action in 2023 and evaluating how we can continue improving these processes.

How does value accrue to our community?

We want Mogul to become a circular protocol, where Mogul is striving to achieve goals that benefit our community, and vice versa. This can be done with small tweaks to operations to make sure that we’re providing circular value.

As you know, as part of STARS token economics, STARS are removed from circulation via supernovas when STARS are used on Mogul. Mogul movie profits are also used to reward holders and vote on where the funding will go. Thus far, the movies launched on Mogul have not yet reached profitability due to delayed distribution and production on the filmmakers. These are variables that Mogul does not control and was a primary reason why we, in 2022, embarked on producing our own animated series (Mogies) where we could control more variables to reward our holders.

In order to create larger supernovas, provide more perks to our holders from movies, and have protocol revenue to allow holders to vote on, we need to launch more films via the Mogul platform.

More films launching means that more STARS will be spent on the platform, more movies will offer rewards to our community, and more movies will have a chance at reaching profitability.

We expect Q1 2023 to bring our community more leadership to the Mogul team, more capital partners, and partnerships with premiere exchanges.
